The road to sustainability has lead Realty Trust to many significant milestones, including recently being named one of Oregon Business magazine’s 100 best green companies to work for in Oregon. Until now, we’ve focused on the simpler stuff: revamping internal processes to reduce waste, selecting eco-minded vendors and supporting our brokers by providing green home education and Earth Advantage Broker certification.
Now our partners are ready to undertake a larger and more daunting step for the company: measuring our business impact on climate change. This means measuring our carbon footprint, which is the amount of greenhouse gases released in the course of conducting our business. Daunting, because so much of what goes into our footprint is out of our immediate control, including the utility use of the offices we lease and the driving habits of our agents. However, in an effort to “walk the talk” and encourage other companies to follow our lead, we have decided to share our journey to measure our carbon footprint and create a climate action plan. Follow us here, on what will be a long and undoubtedly bumpy road. Our first milestone? Selecting a partner to help us navigate the process.
